Frequently Asked Questions of a Marriage Celebrant!
Continued from previous page!
We are visitors from overseas and intend to return home after the wedding. Can we still get married?
You most certainly can. As a matter of fact there are many marriages performed in Australia just like yours. You will have to check with your home country whether you require an Apostille Stamp attached to your marriage certifcate for it to be recognised back home. You can get this information from Australia's Department of Foreign Trade at http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/authen.html
We got married overseas and wish to have another Marriage Ceremony here?
Overseas marriages are generally recognised in Australia as legal and valid. It is therefor not feasible or allowed to have another Marriage Ceremony. However you can have a Renewal of Vows Ceremony that is exactly like a Marriage Ceremony except that the legalities of a Marriage Ceremony do not apply.
You have given us information on Family Relationship services. Why do we need this as we are very much in love and don't forsee marriage difficulties?
The Federal Government has a deep committment to the institution of marriage and all Marriage Celebrants share that same committment. Just in order to avoid marriage breakdowns there is a legal requirement for me to give you information on family relationship services that are available to you and you may find useful during your journey through life together.
My fiance is from overseas. Can he/she remain in Australia as my spouse after the Marriage Ceremony?
This topic is covered under Legal . please refer to that page for a detailed precis of the law regarding Migrant Visas for marriage partners.
