Requirement for witnesses to the Marriage Ceremony:

At your Marriage Ceremony there must be two official witnesses who have attained the minimum age of eighteen years. The full names of your witnesses need to be furnished to me prior to the Marriage Ceremony for inclusion on the official Certificate of Marriage that I will forward to the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

The Monitum:

This is the declaration by the Authorised Marriage Celebrant, me, to the assembled guests that I am duly authorised to perform marriages in Australia. There is specific wording for the Monitum and ALL civil marriage ceremonies must contain this declaration. I will normally include the Monitum in my opening words at the Ceremony.

The Vows:

While it is normal and usual for the Bride and Groom to formulate their own personal vows to each other, the law requires that certain phrases are spoken by both Bride and Groom in a particular manner. Generally I will ask each of the bridal couple to repeat the words after me so that there is no need to memorise them or even include them in your own personal vows.

The Signatures:

The signatures of the 5 signatories (Bride, Groom, Two witnesses and Marriage Celebrant) must be made in the prescence of all of them on the Official Marriage Certificate, the Presentation Certificate and the Marriage Register.
